July 23, 2004 "Wear the Heart Is" Event
The Wear Community Fund provides matching funds for
innovative programs including children's issues, youth sports,
scholarships and education, neighborhood beautification and parks,
libraries
and arts and culture. The fund primarily supports causes serving
neighborhoods within and adjacent to District 2 of the City of
San Diego including Pacific Beach, Mission Bay, Point Loma, Mision
Hills,
Old Town, and Downtown. Annually proceeds from "Wear the Heart
Is" and ongoing fundraising year-round supports the fund.
The Wear Comunity Fund founders, Byron
Wear and Bridget Cantu Wear, have a long history of community service
in San Diego's District 2.
Byron Wear grew up in San Diego and served two terms
as a San Diego City Councilmember.
Councilmember
Wear
was
a leader
and
supporter
of Downtown redevelopment, regional transportation and planning,
neighborhood
beautification and revitilization, improving Mission
Bay and coastal parks, social services and in providing youth
recreational facilities.
Bridget Cantu Wear's career includes
marketing and fundraising for arts and and culture programs in San
Diego. With boys in school, Bridget has served in leadership
positions at local schools, Scouts and sports organizations. She
founded the Pt. Loma Concert Series, a successful program
of free summer concerts in Point Loma.
